Software Design Engineer – Aerospace

Due to ongoing expansion, Alten Ltd is looking for several Software Design Engineers to join our team in Derby within the Aerospace sector. This is a fantastic chance to join a fast-growing company with strong core values of; Accountability, Integrity and Service.

Your new role:

As a Software Design Engineer, you will be one of our quality consultants performing on one of our major engineering projects in the UK. You will also be contributing to our development and growth within the Aerospace industry.

As a Software Design Engineer your main responsibilities will be:

• Experience in Software development life cycle: Requirements, Design, Development, integration and qualification tested to the requirements of DO-178B/C.
• A working appreciation of associated engineering disciplines on real-time embedded systems; preferably Gas Turbine Controls System.
• Experience in C/Ada Programming
• Exposure to Model Based development.
• Good working knowledge of Avionics Communication Protocol like Arinc429, AFDX, CAN protocol
• Expertise with Software Configuration Management and Change Control process.
• Good hands-on experience in Software Configuration Management tools
• Should have strong troubleshoot skills to debug problems
• Experience with developing applications in compliance with safety critical standards such as DO178/C would be ideal.
• Understanding the issues and constraints of real time, safety critical, embedded products.

Experience required:

• Perform the development of SW modules
  • Perform the analysis of requirements prior to the implementation
  • Perform the detailed design and coding of the software module.
  • Ensure the SW Implementation adheres to the proposed SW Architecture
  • Configure the detailed design and code under Configuration Management as per the Configuration management Plan
  • Participate in detailed design and code reviews as per the defined SW Architecture
• Provide solution to verification queries raised by the verification team on the delivered SW product
• Seeking proactive feedback for continuous improvement
• Communication of work status to team lead and wider audiences including senior management if required.
• Ensuring the adoption of company technical and Project management processes.

 Tools:

• Configuration Management – PTC Integrity or similar tools
• Model based design – Matlab / Simulink, SCADE
• UML – Artisan or similar tools

Qualifications required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or higher (Aeronautical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science)
